Wins $55,555 playing Funky 5s scratch-off game

Hitting a top prize on the new Funky 5s Maryland Lottery scratch-off ticket put Christine Robinson of Capitol Heights in shock.

A Washington, D.C. school bus driver now on disability, Christine is caring for two elderly family members and the $55,555 scratch-off prize is truly cause for celebration. The loyal Maryland Lottery player picks up a few scratch-off tickets several times a week for fun and enjoys her small wins immensely. She thinks winning the top prize on a scratch-off is 10 times as much fun!

Her change in fortune is tied to a gas station stop.

“My husband pulled in for gas yesterday and while we were there I saw a brand new ticket, one I hadn’t seen before,” Christine said. “I played the Funky 5s games as he was driving and when I started telling him all of the matches I was seeing, his hands started shaking on the wheel. He recommended that I stop until we got home.”

Once off the road, the Prince George’s County couple sat in the car with almost no reaction at first. “I soon started praying, sending up thanks,” Christine said. “We were well and truly stunned.”

The pair plans to rid themselves of debt with their winnings and then consider their family’s needs. “We have five kids, 23 grandkids and four great-grandchildren, plus other family members in need. There’s a lot we can do now to help.”

Our winner encountered her lottery luck at the Triangle Shell station at 6510 Martin Luther King Jr. Highway in Hyattsville. There are still four Funky 5s top-prize winning tickets on sale in Maryland stores.
