Baltimore woman claims first top prize on Ruby Riches scratch-off
An 83-year-old Baltimore woman has a lot to celebrate, thanks to the Maryland Lottery. The retiree, along with her son and a family friend, took a trip to Lottery headquarters to claim a $30,000 Ruby Riches winning scratch-off.
The winner purchased five scratch-offs Thursday from Uptown Liquors in Baltimore and took the instant tickets home to scratch. When she got to the final instant ticket, she revealed its $30,000 top prize.
“My mom showed me the ticket and I just kept looking at it,” said the winner’s son. “I couldn’t believe it.”
Once she realized how much she won, the avid Lottery player hid the ticket under her pillow until she could claim the prize. The happy woman plans to invest her winnings.
For selling the winning ticket, Uptown Liquors at 2115 West North Avenue in Baltimore, will receive a $300 bonus from the Lottery. The $3 Ruby Riches game hit stores on Aug. 28 and still has seven $30,000 top prizes remaining.
