Catonsville man claims top prize on 50x the Cash game
A routine trip to the gas station turned into a magic moment for a Maryland Lottery scratch-off fan who found the first $100,000 top prize on the new 50X the Cash game.
The lucky landscaper was coming home from work when he noticed his vehicle needed gas. As he paid for his items at Rt. 40 BP in Baltimore, the 54-year-old saw the Lottery’s “eye catching” new 50x the Cash game that arrived in stores Jan. 23. The Catonsville resident bought the $10 game and rushed home to scratch it off, hoping it was his ticket to return to the Lottery Winner’s Circle. Years ago, he won the top prize on another scratch-off.
After finding a match with the winning number “7,” the loyal player scratched off the prize hidden beneath the number. “I looked at the ticket and immediately had to call my friend to tell him the amazing and shocking news!” said the Baltimore County resident. “It was midnight when I called my friend and I kept telling him that, ‘I can’t sleep, I can’t sleep!’ ”
Because of work duties, the winner had to wait until Friday afternoon to claim his prize. The happy winner hid the ticket in a “secret” spot until he could bring it to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
“This must be a dream, it’s surreal!” the player said as he sat in the Winner’s Circle. He found the first of eight $100,000 top prizes in the game, which also has 10 $50,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $10,000. The 50x the Cash game is a member of the Lottery’s Multiplier family of games. Players can shift their cash into hyperdrive by trying their luck with a 5x the Cash game, 10x the Cash and 20x the Cash games.
The lucky landscaper plans to save his prize for the future just as he did with his first big prize.
Sharing in the win is Rt. 40 BP located at 5612 Baltimore National Pike in Baltimore. Because the store sold a top-prize scratch-off in the game, the retailer earns a $1,000 bonus.
