Scratches off High Card jackpot prize while visiting family
A North Carolina woman visiting family in Baltimore won far more than the gas money needed to get back home, thanks to the Maryland Lottery. Her $20,000 surprise jackpot win on a $2 High Card scratch-off will keep Veronica Johnson a happy traveler for many miles.
The 40-year-old government worker had just arrived in Baltimore last weekend when her uncle asked her to get back in the car to buy scratch-offs at a local store. Veronica did so and bought the High Card scratch-off for herself. Our lucky winner scratched her ticket only to realize she beat the dealer’s card on seven out of eight places. The Tarboro resident quickly tallied the prize amount and was shocked to see that she won the $20,000 top-prize.
“I was baffled, dumbfounded and speechless,” she said.
Veronica already has plans for her winnings. “I’m going to pay some bills and we’re going to have a good Christmas,” she said. Five more $20,000 High Card jackpot winning scratch-off tickets are in Maryland stores waiting for buyers. Veronica found her good fortune at Bermuda Bar at 1801-03 East North Avenue in Baltimore.
