On a hunch, Baltimore’s Irvin Whittington played the Cash Craze Crossword scratch-off game and won $10,000!

Baltimore man wins big playing the Cash Craze Crossword game

Irvin Whittington describes himself as a numbers guy. But he is celebrating a big Lottery prize courtesy of a Cash Craze Crossword scratch-off ticket that delivered a $10,000 prize.

The 73-year-old Baltimore resident prefers playing Pick 3 and Pick 4 and he was doing just that on June 16 when lady luck intervened. After finishing his workday, he visited US Fuel, located at 6100 Moravia Park Drive, to play his numbers. But the $3 Cash Craze Crossword scratch-off game caught his eye.

“I just saw the ticket there and decided to go ahead and get three of them,” said the mechanical assembler at USS Honeywell Integrated.

Irvin played the winning ticket when he got home, and as he scratched it he kept revealing word after word. He knew right away he had a winner, and initially believed his prize was $5,000.

“But, when I saw that money stack symbol, I knew it was doubled,” he said with a smile. “It was $10,000.”

The happy player put the ticket on his dresser and went on to have a quiet Father’s Day weekend. He enjoyed a crab dinner with his wife and son but didn’t reveal that there was a $10,000-winning ticket sitting on his dresser. He later shared the news with his wife.

Irvin said some of the prize money would be used to make a down payment on a new car for his wife. The rest will go into the bank.
