Movie-themed instant ticket delivers $50,000 prize
When hoping and heel clicking accomplished nothing, an Ocean City woman sought help from the Wizard of Oz himself to win Maryland Lottery scratch-off riches. It worked! The Worcester County resident scratched a lucky Wizard of Oz instant ticket that delivered a $50,000 top-prize win.
The win put the happy 82-year-old over the rainbow! The single $5 scratch-off she selected at Minit Market in Ocean City features images from the Wizard of Oz movie, which came out when she was 6 years old. The retiree picked a ticket with a smiling Glinda the Good. “It reminded me of my childhood,” the lucky lady said.
She scratched her ticket in her car outside the store and uncovered three wishbones, winning one of the game’s $50,000 top-prizes. When she saw the prize amount, the lucky woman could barely express her excitement. “You can’t believe this is happening,” she said.
The Eastern Shore resident has no immediate plans for her prize. She is a saver rather than a spender. After years of hard work, she respects the riches the winnings represent. “I worked for 40 years and have had good times and hard times, so I’d have to think about that,” she said. After retiring from a local utility company in 1993, her full-time passion is now caring for her family.
Her lucky win also helps the Lottery retailer that sold her the top-prize scratch-off. Minit Market located at 3107 N. Philadelphia Avenue in Ocean City receives a $500 bonus from the Lottery for the sale. There are still four more top-prize tickets awaiting discovery at Lottery retailers.
