Wins $10,000 playing 10x Cash scratch-off
Rest, relaxation and a haircut were the extent of a 61-year-old Olney man’s Labor Day plans until Lady Luck placed a winning 10x Cash Maryland Lottery scratch-off in his hands.
The weekend began quietly enough for the Montgomery County resident, who works as the service manager for an automotive shop. Topping his small list of things to do was a haircut. “The wife had been telling me to go to the shop where she works to get the much-needed trim,” he said. On his way, he stopped at the Shady Grove Beer, Wine & Deli at 15904 Shady Grove Road in Gaithersburg to buy a $10 scratch-off.
“Although I don’t play as much as I used to, I figured it was a holiday, so why not?” He bought the 10x Cash scratch-off and good fortune vaporized his quiet holiday plans.
“It was weird because I scratched the ticket in the store and I thought I had read it wrong so I asked the clerk to scan it. That’s when I knew,” the winner said. He proceeded to get his hair trimmed and surprised wife with the news afterward.
“Although my plans were to laze around the house and not drive too much, this is a great reason to come to Baltimore,” he said. The $10,000 prize is his largest to date; the loyal player won $1,000 about 15 years ago playing a different scratch-off. He plans to buy windows for his home and a new fence with his prize.
“We were very pleased we sold a top winner here,” said So Young Kwon, owner and manager of Shady Grove Beer, Wine& Deli. “It always makes us smile when we hear that our customers win big.”
The 10x Cash ticket has five top-tier $10,000 prizes remaining in Maryland stores.
