Suggestion leads to $50,000 Platinum Crossword win
So happy he could barely speak, an Olney man came to Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore with his family to claim a long-awaited win and share the story of how he won the Platinum Crossword scratch-off ticket’s $50,000 top prize recently.
The father of one told Lottery officials that his daughter had pointed out the $5 ticket in the showcase when they were in the store. “She showed me that ticket so I figured I would try it out,” he said.
Having never played the crossword-style scratch-off tickets before, the 45-year-old man was a little confused at first. However, he knew that having six words was definitely a good thing.
When the dedicated Lottery player finished scratching the ticket, he was completely shocked to see that he was a top prize winner. “I play all the games – Mega Millions, Powerball, scratch-offs; but this is my first win this big like this.”
His wife told Lottery officials that her husband was extremely relaxed when he uncovered his win. “He was just so calm. He didn’t yell or shout. He was just very calm.”
The family plans to put the money toward a vacation and their daughter’s education.
He bought the lucky ticket at Redmill Market Beer and Wine at 7246 Muncaster Mill Road in Derwood.
