Pair of Weekend Powerball wins ‘Rock’ Rockville

Saturday drawing produces $100,000 and $50,004 wins for pair of jackpot chasers

Over the weekend, Powerball dealt a pair of wins to two plucky jackpot chasers who purchased tickets from Maryland Lottery retailers in Rockville The winners discovered their weekend luck on Monday morning and quickly headed to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim prizes of $50,004 and $100,000.

The Montgomery County winners recounted the stories of their luck to Lottery officials, explaining how they won a phenomenal Powerball prize despite being one number away from hitting the jackpot. Nobody achieved that feat on Saturday, so the jackpot rolled to $191 million for the Wednesday, Oct. 25 drawing.

A Rockville man buying barbeque supplies also purchased his lucky quick-pick ticket at his local 7-Eleven #11595, which is located at 824 Baltimore Road. The 46-year-old medical laboratory quality assurance inspector won $50,000 by matching four numbers and the Power Ball. He nabbed an additional $4 win by matching the Power Ball with another group of numbers on the ticket.

The happy player plans to save his winnings to give his family a cushion of savings. “This will allow us to get ahead of the game,” he said.

Pizza night was the key to a $100,000 Powerball win for a lucky lady from Potomac. The 73-year-old retiree picked up her winning ticket with “the works,” including the Power Play feature, along with a pizza. Her lucky retailer was Broadway Pizza located at 7965 Tuckerman Lane in Rockville. The college football fan’s game day celebrations require both pizza and Powerball, and Saturday’s purchase gave her two tasty treats.

Her quick-pick ticket matched four numbers and the Powerball. The 2x multiplier from the Power Play option, which costs an extra $1, doubled her win to $100,000.

The happy winner plans to save her $100,000 prize, saying the money will help extend her retirement funds. She considers her close brush with a jackpot win a “practice run!”
