Parkville Legal Secretary Happy with Winning Lottery Verdict

Doubler promotion leads to $100,000 taxes paid Bonus Match 5 prize

A Parkville legal secretary is among loyal supporters of the Maryland Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 game who enjoy its popular Doubler and taxes-paid promotions. She’s played the game for years, always hoping for one big win.

“I get a multi-day Bonus Match 5 ticket every Sunday to cover the week ahead,” said the 69-year-old. Her winning ticket came her way at the Mars supermarket in Baltimore. “I noticed the Doubler message right away and I remember hoping that I’d get lucky.”

Any winning ticket with the Doubler message has the prize doubled. Under the current promotion, the Lottery also pays the taxes on top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 tickets.

One morning, the mother of two heard the game’s winning numbers on the radio and thought she recognized two of the family dates she uses when playing Bonus Match 5. “I checked the results when I got to the office and my eyes almost fell out,” she said.

The Baltimore County resident called her husband, tears now filling her eyes, to share the news and ask that he pick her up from work. “I wanted him to see the ticket so I could be sure it was real,” she said. An hour or two later, they were at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore claiming the $100,000 prize.

“We knew the Doubler message made the prize $100,000 instead of $50,000 and were just thrilled,” she said. “We didn’t know about the taxes being taken care of. We were over the moon!”

The couple plan to pay bills, share their good fortune with their family and travel. For selling the winning Doubler ticket, Mars supermarket #04 at 9613 Harford Road in Baltimore will receive a $1,000 bonus – double the normal bonus of $500 – from the Lottery. This popular Bonus Match 5 promotion ends Sunday, April 26.
