Buys lucky ticket for game’s first drawing of 2015
When Mark Reynolds of Pasadena remembers his excitement over the ball drop of 2015, he’s thinking of the Jan. 3 Powerball drawing rather than the New Year’s Eve ball drop in Times Square. The happy certified public accountant saw four of his lucky Powerball numbers drop into place to make him Maryland’s sole $10,000 winner.
The 69-year-old Powerball fan often buys tickets for multiple drawings. “When (the jackpot) gets high, I’ll buy a few more tickets along with my regular play,” Mark said. One of those extra tickets led to his Jan. 3 win.
The Anne Arundel County resident discovered his luck when he returned to the EZ Quick Food Mart at 231 Mountain Road in Pasadena to check his ticket. He’d purchased the winning ticket there on the day of the drawing. When he returned home, Mark found out just how much the ticket in his hand was worth. He shared news of his good fortune with his wife and then texted his three daughters.
“In the ’80s I won $1,000 by matching five out of six numbers on the old Lotto game,” he said, “but this is the largest win ever.”
Mark plans to continue playing for big jackpots. As for enjoying his $10,000 win, he may save his prize, make some home improvements or indulge in his love of sports. “If the Ravens get to the Super Bowl,” he said, “I’m going to need this!”
