Pasadena Woman Wins Cold Cash on Hottest Day of the Year

Winner Weather Scratch-Off Yields $100,000 Top Prize

Heather EsterlingOn Tuesday, when temperatures reached105 degrees, Heather Esterling tried to cool down by selecting a scratch-off reminiscent of the winter blizzards. With that decision, Heather scratched her way to the Winner Weather $100,000 top prize.

The 35-year-old initially drove to the nearby EZ Quick Food Mart to pick up a loaf of bread.  Heather, who frequents that store, began talking to her friends who work there.  On her way home, Heather realized that she forgot to buy the bread, and stopped at a Shell station.  While there, she purchased the eight remaining Winner Weather tickets, along with the bread, and returned home to scratch the tickets.

“Once I saw the first few $10,000 prizes, I told my husband that I knew I had a $100,000 winner,” said the energetic winner.  “Even though it was after one o’clock in the morning, I started calling everyone to let them know I won!”

Winning isn’t anything new for this mother-of-three.  She just began playing the Lottery when she cashed in one of her husband’s winning Pick 4 tickets last November.  Since then, Heather has won quite a few $500 and $1,000 prizes on scratch-offs and Keno.

Heather, who has been a manager at Party City for 20 years, told Lottery Officials that she hasn’t yet decided what to do with her winnings.  “I have three young kids.  I’m sure they will help me decide.”  The winning ticket was purchased at Mountain Road Shell, located at 3900 Mountain Rd. in Pasadena.
