Claims $100,000 top prize on popular football-themed instant ticket
What was a New England Patriots football fan doing buying Ravens scratch-offs? She was winning! Above all else, this lucky Baltimore woman loves Maryland Lottery scratch-offs and had purchased $30 worth of random games.
“It didn’t matter that a Ravens scratch-off was in the bunch,” she said, smiling. “I just like playing all of the scratch-offs.”
The 53-year-old winner made her purchase at G&T Liquors in Baltimore and took the games home to play. The assortment included two $5 Ravens scratch-offs, which she played first. The retired childcare provider scratched off the numbers and, seeing she had matched a winning number, revealed the prize. What a touchdown! She won the first of the game’s five $100,000 top prizes!
“I thought it was a $5 winner, but saw it was really $100,000,” she said. “I didn’t know I would get the big one, but I just did.”
The lucky lady immediately called her husband, who was at work, and shared her great news. He is a Baltimore Ravens football fan and was extremely happy for her.
“We were just talking about her winning the other day,” he told Lottery officials as the couple claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters. “I knew she was not joking.”
The winner plans to use the prize to pay off the couple’s car loan and other bills and will save the rest. After this big Ravens win, the Patriots fan is rethinking her team of choice.
“Yes, I like the Ravens now,” she said, laughing. “I might even watch the next game.”
For selling the top-prize winning ticket, G&T Liquors located at 2048 Wilkens Avenue in Baltimore earned a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
