Lucky trucker from Hagerstown picks up winning ticket while in Severn
A truck driver from Hagerstown who follows the responsible gambling credo of limiting how much he plays and sticking to that limit picked up a $31,233 Racetrax win this week.
The 29-year-old player, who travels all over the state, stopped in Telegraph Exxon in Severn on Sept. 15 to place his favorite Racetrax wager. He played high-odds horses 10, 11 and 12 in a Trifecta Box bet. The Washington County resident put down $60 for 10 draws, put the ticket in his pocket and continued on his way.
Two days later, the Racetrax fan checked the ticket and found out his horses had delivered the big win. The lucky trucker said he used to play more frequently, but enjoys his Racetrax bets more since limiting his play. Over the years, he has hit for small amounts and once scored about $1,500. This week’s prize is his largest to date.
As for his score, the winner said he plans to “put it away.” Asked if he was planning any celebrations, perhaps a nice dinner, he smiled and said, “I might tell my girl.” Meanwhile, he’ll keep playing Racetrax as a way to brighten his days.
Also having a brighter day is Telegraph Exxon, which is located at 805 Reece Road. The Anne Arundel County store picks up a bonus of $312.33 from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
