Baltimore man plays same numbers three times on one Bonus Match 5 ticket
After spotting his lucky Maryland Lottery numbers in a 2014 horoscope calendar, a retired U.S. Marine took it as a sign that a Lottery win was coming this year. The Baltimore resident played those numbers at Bernie’s Liquors in Baltimore not once, not twice, but three times for each Bonus Match 5 drawing since January.
His persistence finally paid off! On Christmas Eve, the 61-year-old carpenter watched his lucky numbers finally scroll across the television screen. Each of the three lines on his winning ticket was worth $50,000, for a total of $150,000.
“The win came at the perfect time,” he said with a grin. “My resolution for 2015 was going to be to only play the numbers once, instead of three times for each drawing. I think I’m going to save my resolution for 2016.”
Each number has a special meaning. Two of them are his birth month and day and the other four numbers corresponded to his military dates. This is the second time the loyal Lottery player has his birthday to thank for a Lottery win. More than 20 years ago, he won $27,000 when his birth date and year turned up in Pick 3 and Pick 4 drawings on the same day.
With his winnings, the lucky man plans to pay off bills for a couple of cruises planned for next year, pay bills and do some work around the house.
Bernie’s Liquors is located at 1414 Martin Blvd. in Baltimore. The retailer will receive a $1,500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
