Police Employee Captures Most-Wanted Scratch-off Prize

Glen Burnie woman wins $30,000 on Fruit Explosion game

211-Fruit-Explosion-ITVMA police department employee who plays Maryland Lottery scratch-offs from time to time just captured the most-wanted scratch-off in the Fruit Explosion game – the one carrying a $30,000 top prize!

The Anne Arundel County resident is sure glad she followed her mother’s suggestion to play scratch-offs at Severn Liquor Discount Mart in Glen Burnie.

“My mom stopped in to pick up a few tickets and suggested I try one,” said the Baltimore County police department worker. “She picked out the Fruit Explosion tickets and we scratched them outside as we walked to the car.”

Thinking that she’d won $300, the 29-year-old was about to show the instant ticket to her mother when she noticed she still had some scratching to do. “I saw another zero, and then another …  $30,000! I was speechless,” she said. Unable to comprehend what she was seeing, she was able to speak just one word. “I turned to her and could barely get out, ‘Mom!’ ”

They spent a few minutes trying to convince each other that the $3 ticket was a top-prize winner. Next, they placed an important phone call. “I couldn’t do it, so my mom called my dad with the news,” the happy winner said. “She was crying.”

Our lucky law enforcement worker plans to use her prize for family expenses that came up in recent months. “This really comes at a good time for me,” she said.

The lucky retailer, Severn Liquor Discount Mart at 7958 Crain Highway in Glen Burnie, will receive a $300 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize ticket. One more top prize is unclaimed in the game, along with more than 100,000 prizes of $3 to $1,000.
