Married team claims game’s first $100,000 top-prize win
A happy sigh of relief was among the reactions of a lucky Baltimore couple after they scratched their way to a $100,000 top-prize win on the Power 8s game.
“I was just saying to my husband that I wanted us to get out of debt this year and then this happens,” said the wife.
The couple were out together when they decided to stop at Logan Liquors in Baltimore specifically to buy Maryland Lottery scratch-offs. The 61-year-old husband went inside and purchased a Ravens instant ticket, a Holiday Cash game and the Power 8s scratch-off he gave to his wife. Not exactly sure how to play, the 42-year-old gave the ticket back to him.
“I play all the time, but my wife doesn’t play that much,” he said. “I dropped her off to work and I played the ticket for her a little bit later.”
The lucky husband was so excited when he saw the scratch-off carried a $100,000 top prize that he called his wife immediately. He told her to leave work early but didn’t tell her why. The husband anxiously picked her up and showed her the winning instant ticket as soon as she got in the car.
“I didn’t quite understand it, since I don’t play that much,” she said. “I was very excited, though.”
The winners claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on the same day. The grateful couple said they will use their big prize to pay off loans and bills.
Their lucky retailer is also celebrating! Logan Liquors located at 3441 Dundalk Avenue in Baltimore earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
The $10 Power 8s game still has plenty of prizes awaiting discovery. The scratch-off has 10 more unclaimed $100,000 top prizes, 22 $10,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $1,000.
