Pennsylvania woman claims $10,000 prize from June 7 drawing
A worried Pennsylvania woman was in dire need of good news as she waited in a hospital emergency room, wondering how badly her father-in-law was injured in a car accident.
The first installment of good news arrived quickly, when she learned he would recover. More happy news followed a few days later involving his Powerball ticket for the June 7 drawing.
Her father-in-law lives with the winner and her husband in their New Oxford home. He was traveling to work in Maryland when he bought the lucky Powerball ticket at the MJ Mart in Westminster. Moments later, the accident occurred.
“When we went in his hospital room to visit, he gave us a Lottery ticket,” said the mother of two. “He wanted us to check it and keep any winnings it produced. We set the ticket aside and focused on getting him home.”
A few days later, though, her husband checked mdlottery.com for the winning numbers and broke the good news. The 32-year-old woman was floored. “I absolutely could not believe it! What a blessing!”
The lucky Powerball ticket was one of 20,400 Maryland winners in the June 7 drawing and one of only two $10,000 winners in the state. The father-in-law paid $10 for five plays for the drawing and picked the numbers.
Our happy winner owns a graphic design business and infrequently played lottery games in the past. Now, however, that will change. “I’ll play when next in Maryland, in case that good luck is still focused on us as strongly as it was the week of the accident,” she said.
The family’s savings account will receive most of the prize and a small portion will go to home improvements. Want to try your luck at the Carroll County store? Visit the MJ Mart at 400 North Center Street in Westminster.
