Powerball Win Makes Thanksgiving Preparations Memorable

$200,000 second-tier prize claimed by Anne Arundel Retiree

A retired Arnold resident had an extra item to be thankful for this past holiday. Before the 76-year-old gathered with family for Thanksgiving this year, she discovered she had won a $200,000 second-tier prize playing Powerball.

The winner discovered that she was holding a winning ticket when she was picking up supplies for her holiday dinner. When one of her tickets was scanned and returned a “Go to Lottery” message, she phoned her daughter to review the numbers on the ticket. She was surprised when her daughter said that she had won $200,000. “My knees were shaking and I was a nervous wreck, but I still needed to get some items,” she said. Eager to get her winning ticket home safely, she cut her shopping trip short and put her ticket somewhere safe. “I put it in my underwear drawer,” said the winner.

The excitement of the win was still in the air when the winner visited Lottery headquarters to claim her prize. “This is unbelievable. Now it’s for real,” she said. The lucky winner plans to use her prize for home repairs and purchase a new car. The winning ticket was purchased at the Giant Food supermarket, located at 575 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park.
