Wins Top Prize on Golden Glitter Scratch-Off
Virginia Sharp nearly discarded her winning Golden Glitter scratch-off which was a Christmas gift from her daughter and son-in-law. The soon-to-be-85-year-old received several instant tickets on Christmas Day and scratched them later that evening.
The mother-of-six, who has also been a foster parent to over 100 children, said that after playing her tickets, she put what she believed were non-winners in her medicine cabinet. The following day, before leaving her home for a doctor’s appointment, she decided to check the tickets once again. To her surprise she noticed that her $2 Golden Glitter ticket was a $10,000 winner. Immediately, she called her daughter to spread the great news. “I don’t want to hear it, I’d rather see the ticket,” her daughter said, as Virginia tried to explain how she’d won.
Turning 85 next week, the spry birthday girl plans to take a trip to Atlantic City and pay some of her bills with her prize money. The winning ticket was purchased at U-5 Foods, located at 3850 Smithville Rd. in Federalsburg.
