Smaller Win Leads to Big Payoff
Mevelyn Cullins walked into the winner’s lounge at Lottery Headquarters with a big grin on his face and a pep in his step. He had just claimed $100,000 playing the Hot Casino Cash scratch-off, a win that might not have happened, had he not decided to cash a smaller scratch-off prize.
On the way to work this past Monday, he bought a few winning scratch-off tickets. “I cashed in $30 on my way home from work,” said Mevelyn. “I could have left, but instead I bought a couple more.” The chief engineer at CB Richard Ellis Management Company scratched them in the store, revealing the $100,000 win.

The ecstatic winner wasted no time telling his friends and family. As expected, nobody believed him. His wife told him that once she sees the check, she’ll believe him. “She even thought the ticket was fake,” Mevelyn said.
The big winner, who has three children, plans to make some home improvements with his windfall, get a car for his wife, vacation in Hawaii and invest the rest. The winning ticket was purchased at the Dash In, located at 136 E Chesapeake Beach Road in Owings.
