Lucky retailer sells second $1 million ticket in as many years
If one of your co-workers is smiling from ear to ear this Monday morning, ask if they have the $1 million winning Mega Millions ticket sold at Greenway Liquors in Greenbelt. That lucky retailer located at 7533 Greenbelt Road sold the state’s only $1 million winning ticket in the Friday, July 8 drawing, making it the second $1 million winning Mega Millions ticket sold by the store in two years.
Although no one in Maryland hit the $540 million jackpot, a lucky player in Indiana did! A winning jackpot ticket sold in Indiana matched all six numbers in the drawing. The winning numbers are 8, 19, 20, 55 and 73. The Mega Ball number is 5.
Maryland sold one of 10 tickets nationwide that matched five of the winning numbers to deliver the $1 million second-tier prize. Maryland Lottery officials encourage our winner to sign the back of the ticket immediately and put it in a safe location. Our lucky winner has 182 days to claim the prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters at 1800 Washington Blvd. in Baltimore.
Our state sold 272,682 winning tickets worth prizes ranging from $1 to $1 million. Of those winning tickets, 15,595 had the Megaplier option. The x2 Megaplier in this drawing doubles their prizes.
The lucky retailer will receive a $2,500 bonus for selling the ticket. In April 2014, the store sold another $1 million winning Mega Millions ticket and in 2011, it sold two $50,000 winning scratch-offs.
The state’s last jackpot win came in March 2014, when Maryland and Florida players split a $414 million jackpot. That winning ticket was sold at Lady’s Liquors in La Plata. This is Maryland’s third $1 million winning ticket sold in 2016. Royal Farms in Dundalk sold a winner in the Jan. 8 drawing and Klein’s ShopRite in Belcamp sold the $1 million winning ticket in the May 13 drawing.
Mega Millions tickets are sold in 46 states and jurisdictions. Odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 259 million with overall odds of winning 1 in 15.
