Prince George’s County Woman Finds Sweet Riches

Claims $50,000 top prize on scratch-off win

Sweet RichesA Hyattsville woman had a reason to tease her husband last Wednesday after she won $50,000 on her Sweet Riches scratch-off. Her husband, who usually purchases three tickets a day, was the scratch-off player in the family. Despite his dedication, it was his wife’s scratch-off who netted them $50,000.

When the Hyattsville woman saw she had won such a large amount she thought her eyes were playing tricks on her. “I had to ask the store clerk if he was seeing the same thing as me. He told me to keep quiet and go directly to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore before they closed,” she said, obviously still in shock.

Her husband was in even more shock when she came home to tell him they needed to make a trip to Baltimore. “My husband is the player in the family,” she told Lottery officials. “He’ll come home every day and sit down to scratch a couple of tickets. He couldn’t believe it!”

As any dutiful husband would be, the man beamed at his wife while she shared her story. He was more than happy to be shown up at his own game. “What’s mine is her and what’s hers is mine right?” he joked. “But in all seriousness, I’m so happy this happened to her!”

The couple has no immediate plans for the money and wants to save as much as possible. The winning ticket was purchased at 7-11 #11716, located at 9151 Riggs Road in Adelphi. There are three remaining top prizes on the Sweet Riches scratch-off ticket.
