Salisbury, Centreville winners claim $1 million, $50,000 prizes
A pair of Eastern Shore players are ending 2020 in style after winning $1 million and $50,000, respectively, on two Maryland Lottery Lucky 777 scratch-offs. Whether it was pure luck or “Shore luck” that led to their big wins, these players are on their way to an enriched holiday.
The Lucky 777 game’s $1 million top prize went to a 64-year-old Salisbury woman. The Food Lion shopper found the game’s third top prize by uncovering a lucky shamrock symbol with the $1 million win. She decided to take the cash option, rather than the annuity, for the prize.
In similar fashion, a Centreville man uncovered his $50,000 win shortly after returning home. The 74-year-old retired IT professional sat down opposite his wife and scratched off the instant ticket he bought at 7-Eleven #34278 in Queenstown.
“Holy cow, I got the surprise of my life when I saw what was there,” said the winner.
His scratch-off revealed shamrock symbols on 25 of the 30 prize spots and, under each symbol, the amount of the prize he had just won. When he tallied up the prizes, the happy husband had won $50,000! The Queen Anne’s County resident claimed his winnings at Lottery headquarters last week.
The prize, far greater than his previous top win of $15, made him happy that day. The winner plans to share that happiness with his family during the holidays.
“It’s different, since we’d usually be celebrating together, and this year we will be staying safe by staying home. But my kids will notice their Christmas envelopes will be a bit heavier this year,” he said.
The $1 million winner’s ticket came from Food Lion #1268 located at 232 Tilghman Road in Salisbury. The Wicomico County business will earn a $1,000 retailer bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning ticket in the $20 game. Our retiree found his $50,000 winning scratch-off at the Queenstown 7-Eleven #34278 located at 212 Grange Hall Road.
The Lucky 777 ticket, which launched in May, features thousands of prizes from $20 to $1 million. Even with these recent top-prize win, the instant ticket still has many top prizes remaining, including four more $1 million prizes, six $50,000 prizes and 78 $10,000 prizes.
