Ravens scratch-off ticket purchased at Purple Evening sets off family celebration
The Baltimore Ravens’ Purple Evening event is always a night of football fun aimed at female fans of the NFL team, and the Maryland Lottery enjoys being part of the festivities. This year’s Purple Evening, held Oct. 3, was an especially good time for a Baltimore woman who had a close encounter with both Ravens football and Lottery winning. She purchased a $10,000-winning $5 Ravens scratch-off ticket just before leaving the stadium.
The 48-year-old woman, bought a series of tickets as gifts for the men in her family. She had just finished trying some football drills on the M&T Bank Stadium field when an energetic Lottery vendor caught her attention. She selected 10 of the $5 Ravens scratch-offs, enough for her brothers and father to share in some of the Purple Evening fun, and passed them out when she returned home.
The next morning, her father called her with some unexpected news. The ticket she gave him was a $10,000 winner.
“I was so excited I wanted to cry,” she said, explaining that the night she purchased the lucky ticket marked the passing of a dear family member.
Her father, a 66 year-old retired Army Scout and Vietnam veteran, was also ecstatic.
“When it happened I was thinking about jumping through the sky,” he said, adding that he planned to use a portion of the prize money for auto maintenance and would put the rest into savings.
The $5 Ravens ticket launched in July alongside a $2 Ravens scratch-off. The $5 game still has four $100,000 top prizes that are unclaimed, along with six $50,000 prizes, seven more $10,000 prizes, and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $5 to $1,000. The $2 Ravens ticket offers a top prize of $20,000. All non-winning $2 and $5 Ravens tickets are eligible for the Lottery’s Ravens second-chance contests, where prizes include cash and season tickets.
