Discovers Cash Lines scratch-off is $30,000 top-prize winner
A Severn woman who regularly enters non-winning Maryland Lottery scratch-offs into her My Lottery Rewards account discovered an unexpected blessing, thanks to an error message.
The loyal player was puzzled when she couldn’t enter the $3 Cash Lines ticket into her account so she could earn points to redeem for prizes or contest entries. “I thought the ticket wasn’t a winner so I put it in the pile with the other stuff,” she said. The Anne Arundel County resident has entered enough non-winning scratch-offs through My Lottery Rewards so she was familiar with the process. “I kept getting the error message. I thought, ‘What the heck?’ ”
The 51-year-old returned to her favorite Lottery retailer, Fort Liquors in Odenton, to ask the clerk for help. He looked closely at the scratch-off, scanned it and they both understood the problem when a message appeared telling her to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters. Her scratch-off was not only a winner but a $30,000 top-prize winner! The lucky lady, who works in Annapolis, had no time to go home and hide the ticket because she had plans to meet her sister at Bible study.
“I handed her the ticket and said, ‘Take a look at this,’” the winner said. Her sister’s reaction? “She said, ‘Whoa!’ ” As soon as Bible study ended, the happy woman headed to her mom’s house to give her the good news. She plans to share her prize with her family and her church.
“This couldn’t have come at a better time,” she said. Sharing in her Lottery luck is the lucky Anne Arundel County retailer. Fort Liquors at 1628 Annapolis Road in Odenton will receive a $300 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
