Racetrax Fan Finds $10,146 Prize Playing Popular Game

A big fan of Maryland Lottery games, especially Racetrax, got to celebrate his newfound luck in the Winner’s Circle at Lottery headquarters. His winning combination — 10, 1, 2 and 12 — gave him a $10,146 prize.

The Severna Park resident watched a combination of the numbers appear for several days before he played them and won. His lucky day was Aug. 24, when he was waiting to meet a friend and killing time playing Racetrax at his favorite Lottery retailer, Camp Meade Shell in Linthicum. The Anne Arundel County man placed $9 on a Superfecta bet that horses 10, 1, 2 and 12 would finish the race in first, second, third and fourth place in that exact order. Because the Lottery has a $6 for $5 Racetrax Promotion under way through Sept. 9, the player got a discount on his 10 drawings, too.

After playing his games, the 57-year-old placed the ticket in his pocket and went to meet his friend. Later that evening, he went back to Anne Arundel County’s Camp Meade Shell to check the ticket. The retailer had great news: he won $10,146!

“He told me, ‘You finally got it!’ ” said the winner, smiling. “I just couldn’t believe it.”

The lab tech then put the ticket in his pocket again and went home. The next morning, he forgot all about the ticket in his pocket until he reached for his wallet and the winning ticket fell to the floor. Good thing he noticed and picked it up right away! The Lottery urges all of its players to sign the back of winning tickets immediately and place them in a safe place until the winner can claim the prize.

The happy winner said he plans to use some of the prize to help his college-age daughter financially.

His lucky retailer located at 463 North Camp Meade Road in Linthicum can also celebrate. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, Camp Meade Shell picks up a bonus from the Lottery amounting to 1 percent of the total prize, or $101.46.
