Gives retired grandfather his biggest win ever
An 80-year-old Maryland Lottery Racetrax fan who bet on a trio of horses to deliver a prize still cannot believe his Lottery luck. The Baltimore man folded his hands in prayer and said a quiet thank you to heaven after receiving a check in the Winner’s Lounge at Lottery headquarters.
“He answered my prayers,” the grateful man said.
His $6 Trifecta Box bet paid off with a $14,141 prize, which is his biggest win yet. The grandfather of 15 said the prize will enable him to pay off his bills.
The loyal player selected the 8, 10 and 12 horses to win in any order when he placed the bet at Park Circle BP in Baltimore. The Lottery retailer is one of his favorite places to play the computer-animated horseracing game, he said. A friend who drove him to collect the prize said the two men celebrated with a couple of beers when he won on Jan. 25.
He favors Trifecta Box bets and those three specific horses, the winner said. In a Trifecta Box bet, a player selects three horses to win in any order.
The lucky retailer is also a winner. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket over $10,000, Park Circle BP located at 3312 Reisterstown Road receives a $141 bonus from the Lottery – equal to 1 percent of the prize value.
