Congratulations to a lucky Racetrax novice and his family on their $29,217 win.

Howard County man captures prize with Superfecta bet

A happy Columbia man entered the Maryland Lottery Winner’s Circle all smiles, his family by his side, after claiming a $29,217 Racetrax prize won as a newcomer to the game. Beginner’s luck strikes again!

The 43-year-old and his family said they believe the cashier at their local convenience store is to thank for the big win. “We usually play Mega Millions and Powerball, but the cashier influenced us to try Racetrax this time,” he said. They were at the Cradlerock Food Mart in Columbia when the lucky dad placed a 10-draw Superfecta bet on the 11, 9, 1 and 2 horses to finish in that exact order. He added the Bonus feature to his ticket, too, which gives players the chance to boost their winnings by up to 10 times the original amount. After the horses ran their 10 races, the family checked the ticket and enjoyed great news.

“The cashier didn’t tell us how much we had won, he just said ‘You won big’ ” the winner said. “We haven’t really won anything like this before. The most we have won is $500.” The family plans to pay bills with the prize and put the rest of the windfall into the bank.

The winner said he will “most definitely” play Racetrax again with the hope of winning even bigger prizes in the future.

Also celebrating the win is the lucky Howard County retailer. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 and up, Cradlerock Food Mart located at 6810 Cradlerock Way in Columbia receives a $292.17 bonus from the Lottery.
