Racetrax Player’s Steeds Gallop to $60,261 Win

Aberdeen woman finds Lottery luck with Superfecta bet

When the thought of playing a specific Racetrax Superfecta combination repeatedly crossed her mind, a loyal Lottery player from Aberdeen followed through — and won!

The $60,261 prize she collected at Maryland Lottery headquarters was four times smaller than it could have been, said the Harford County woman. When she was standing in line to buy her ticket at Aberdeen Shell in Aberdeen on Feb. 4, she couldn’t decide whether to add the Bonus multiplier option to her 20-draw ticket. She decided not to pay extra for the Bonus, which meant she missed out on quadrupling her prize.

She picked her winning numbers of 12, 9, 6 and 3 because of luck with a quick-pick ticket she bought once. “I play those numbers occasionally,” said the 65-year-old. Sometimes she places a Superfecta wager and sometimes a Superfecta Box wager with that number combination and sometimes she wins. The Racetrax fan wasn’t expecting to watch the first of her 20 races wind up with all four horses galloping across the finish line together in the correct 12, 9, 6 and 3 order.

“I’ve been watching the numbers for a few weeks and that hadn’t come out,” said the happy mother of two. “It was just on my mind and then it played right out.” The Lottery retailer had customers in the business after her big win, so she quietly left the store. The first thing she did was call family members with news of her good fortune. “Winning was just unbelievable,” she said.

A son who accompanied her to Lottery headquarters recalls telling her, “Mom, calm down, you are too excited.” Indeed she was! Although Racetrax is a favorite game, the loyal player enjoys trying her luck with all of the Lottery’s games and this is her biggest win ever. She has no immediate plans for her prize.

She was happy to hear that the Harford County retailer will earn a $602.61 bonus from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. Aberdeen Shell is located at 1026 Middleton Road.
