Retired Fort Washington resident wins more than $44,000
A Fort Washington woman is the latest Maryland Lottery Racetrax player to hit it big with the computer-animated horse racing game, thanks to the Superfecta wager option. A Racetrax rookie, the retired beauty shop manager rarely plays Lottery games and let the machine quick pick horses 4, 5, 8 and 11 for 20 races.
That decision and Lottery luck parlayed her $20 Superfecta bet to a $44,967 prize.
“I was just stunned when they told me how much I’d won,” she said. “I almost fell to the floor.”
Good fortune placed the woman and her son together at Holiday Liquors at 3385 Leonardtown Road in Waldorf. “I saw that Racetrax had a pretty big payout for just a $1 bet so I pointed it out to my son,” the Prince George’s County resident told Lottery officials. Her son, who is familiar with the game, suggested she try her luck. He also recommended the new Superfecta wager that had caught her attention.
“I got my ticket, stuck it away in my purse and didn’t think about it again until the next day,” the 71-year-old said. Her travels the following afternoon brought her near the store so she stopped in to check the ticket. What a wonderful surprise!
Her plans for spending the prize money include buying a motorcycle and enjoying adventure-themed activities. “I’ll have lots of fun with this money,” she said. “I’ve always wanted to learn to ride a motorcycle. The other things are sort of ‘bucket list’ items for me, things I’ve imagined doing but never got around to.”
Our retiree isn’t our only winner. For selling the Racetrax winning ticket, the Lottery retailer will receive a bonus of $449.
