Nottingham’s Thomas Humphries was thrilled to win more than $15,000 playing Racetrax

Tough morning improves with $15,367 prize

Thomas Humphries has played Maryland Lottery games several times a week for years with remarkable success. The Baltimore County man won $7,000 playing Keno five years ago and $5,000 more just last year as a contestant in the Monopoly™ second-chance contest.

A Racetrax Trifecta Box bet on the 10, 11 and 12 horses just gave him a $15,367 win and turned around what until then had promised to be a lousy day.

“It was a rough morning,” said the 31-year-old husband and father. “The kids were fighting, traffic was horrible and one of my employees called out of work.”

The owner of a car and truck accessory business, Thomas decided to stop at Lottery retailer 7 Courts Liquors in Baltimore on his way to work to see if any of the Lottery games he’d purchased earlier were winners. His scan of the Racetrax ticket brightened his mood. “The ticket scanner directed me to the claim center, so I knew it was a big winner.”

Using the Maryland Lottery app on his phone, the Nottingham resident was stunned to discover that his May 19 Racetrax ticket was worth more than $15,000. “That turned my day around immediately – this smile has not left my face since that moment.”

Thomas phoned his wife with the great news and heard her start celebrating with her co-workers. “This really comes at a great time for us,” he said. “This new business, a bunch of bills and some car trouble – it’s just a Godsend.”

He found his lucky ticket at 7 Courts Liquors at 4130 East Joppa Road in Baltimore. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, the retailer will receive a bonus of $153.67 from the Lottery.
