Rainbow Blackout Bingo Scratch-off Leads to $30,000 Pot of Gold

Daycare employee wins top prize on Maryland Lottery scratch-off

Rainbow Blackout BingoThe week didn’t start well for Britany Helewicz of Parkville but it ended with a celebration and a $30,000 prize, thanks to the Maryland Lottery and a lucky rainbow.

The Baltimore County resident had felt poorly over the weekend and was home in bed resting on Tuesday when she experienced what she termed as a premonition. She had a sudden, strong urge to buy a Lottery ticket.

“I only get tickets once or twice a year,” the daycare employee said. “Something told me that now had to be one of those times.” She dragged herself out of bed to act on that lucky feeling.

“My boyfriend and I stopped by a convenience store to see if they sold tickets,” the 21-year-old said. Luckily, Royal Farms store #181 at 9620 Belair Road in Perry Hall carries lots of Lottery products, including the Rainbow Blackout Bingo scratch game. “I remembered winning a small amount with a bingo ticket last year, so I chose the first bingo game I saw,” she said.

Britany scratched her ticket in the store and was stunned. “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” she said. “My boyfriend couldn’t either. Neither could the cashier!” Once the clerk confirmed the $30,000 win, the celebration began. “It’s the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to me.”

The timing of her Lottery luck is perfect, Britany said. “There are a few people in my family who are having a tough time right now. I’ll really be able to help them.” Her winnings may also go toward college costs, her savings account and maybe a down payment on a home.

The Lottery’s Rainbow Blackout Bingo game still has seven $30,000 top prize winners in Maryland stores awaiting discovery. For selling the winning ticket, the Royal Farms store will receive a $300 bonus from the Lottery.
