Rainy Days Covered for Lottery-Winning Insurance Agent

Claims $100,000 top prize on 50X The Cash instant ticket

Working in an insurance office for as long as she has, a Baltimore scratch-off player knows the benefits of planning for unforeseen events. The 79-year-old also enjoys playing Maryland Lottery games and knows the potential benefits of trying new instant tickets.

That combined knowledge led to her $100,000 top-prize win on a 50X The Cash scratch-off. Elated with her good fortune, the player can now spend even more time than she had planned with a sick relative. The bulk of her $100,000 prize will go into her savings account, as one might expect of someone in her field. As for the rest? “I’m not sure what I’ll do with it,” she said, “look for something fun to do, I imagine, and for someone that needs help.”

Her brush with Lottery luck occurred at the Merritt Shell located at 1521 Merritt Boulevard in Baltimore. For its role in the big win, the retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.

“I was playing my numbers when I noticed a scratch ticket I’d never seen before,” the winner told Lottery officials. Her first $10 ticket was a non-winner, so she decided to try playing the 50X The Cash game one more time.

“When I saw the $100,000 match I was sure that something was wrong,” she said. She ran her instant ticket through the scanner and asked the clerk to check it, too. Both scans showed the same happy result. “The two of us just stood there,” she said. “We were both shocked.”

The 50X The Cash game landed on retailers’ shelves in January and has one $100,000 top prize still in play. There are three $50,000 second-tier prizes awaiting discovery as well.
