Matching Bonus Match 5 tickets deliver $100,000 win
A Baltimore County man’s strategy for playing Bonus Match 5 paid off on Friday, Dec. 15, when his two tickets with the same numbers gave the grandfather a $100,000 prize.
“I play a few of your games,” the 70-year-old told Maryland Lottery officials when he claimed his top prize. “Bonus Match 5 is the one I feel the best about. Whenever I play, I get two tickets, the same numbers twice.”
Before Friday, some might have questioned this strategy, arguing that two different sets of numbers increase the likelihood of a win. The Randallstown man bought two Bonus Match 5 tickets for that night’s drawing while at Pantry 1 Food Mart in Randallstown. He played his own sets of numbers and one group – 10, 11, 16, 19 and 35 – delivered the big win.
“I checked mdlottery.com Friday night before going to bed,” he said. “I recognized the numbers right away but had to check my tickets to make sure I’d played the right numbers. I checked and I checked again – they were all there.”
The winner and his wife plan to add the prize to their savings, with thoughts of taking a special family vacation next year.
Their lucky Lottery retailer is also a winner. Pantry 1 Food Mart located at 5100 Old Court Road in Randallstown earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for supplying two winning top-prize tickets in the game.
