Claims top prize on $3 instant game
A Baltimore County player had 30,001 reasons to celebrate the end of the work week on July 26. He won the $30,000 top prize on the Maryland Lottery’s SKEE-BALL® instant ticket and the weekend was at hand.
“My wife loves it,” said the Randallstown resident of his big win. Happily married for 15 years, “Happy Man” said the first thing he did when he realized he was $30,000 richer was to call his wife.
The winner found the lucky scratch-off at Crazy John’s, a restaurant at 410 East Baltimore Street in Baltimore City. “Happy Man” and colleagues from work typically take their coffee break at Crazy John’s and he said July 26 was no exception. While there, the loyal player bought a $3 SKEE-BALL® instant ticket because it’s relatively new to the Maryland Lottery scratch-off lineup.
“It was something different,” he said. The 66-year-old scratched off the instant ticket and then scanned the prize check box.
“I thought I won $30,” he said, “but then the girl next to me said, ‘You’d better look at those zeros!’ ” A few hours later, “Happy Man” arrived at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his prize.
The smiling player had not yet decided how to spend the Lottery windfall but said a new truck is a possibility. “Happy Man” has been unhappy about the performance of his current vehicle, which may need a new transmission.
The lucky winner isn’t the only one with reason to celebrate! For selling the $30,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, Crazy John’s earns a $300 bonus from the Lottery.
The SKEE-BALL® scratch-off game rolled out to retailers around the state on June 24. There are still six $30,000 top prizes awaiting discovery.
