Lucky scratch-off injects celebration into routine day at the office
What started out as a routine day at the office did not end that way for a Reisterstown woman who claimed the last of the five $100,000 top prizes on the Ravens scratch-off.
The accounting firm employee found her lucky ticket at the Franklin Boulevard Exxon in Reisterstown. She bought three scratch-offs, including the $5 Ravens ticket, on her way to work on Jan. 28, After not finding a winner on the first two instant tickets, she scratched the Ravens game and had trouble believing her eyes.
“I saw I matched the (winning number) 2 and I was expecting $5 or $10,” she said. Instead, her ticket was a top-prize winner. “I couldn’t believe it. I walked to my boss’ office and made him look. I didn’t think it was real.”
After her boss confirmed the big prize, the lucky winner called her husband of 28 years and then spoke with her daughter. A friend offered to drive her to Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the prize.
“I couldn’t drive,” she said, as she sat in the Winner’s Lounge just a couple of hours after scratching her Ravens ticket. “My work day is probably done.”
While the Baltimore County resident enjoys playing scratch-offs, the biggest Lottery wins she enjoyed prior to this one came courtesy of Mega Millions. That game delivered three $150 prizes!
This grandmother of one said she plans to pay bills, buy a present for her grandson and save money for a rainy day. And, according to the friend who accompanied her to Lottery headquarters, the 47-year-old winner spent part of the drive talking about buying new tires for her truck.
The happy player purchased the lucky Ravens ticket at Franklin Boulevard Exxon at 11904 Reisterstown Road in Reisterstown. For selling the top-prize ticket, the retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
