Restaurant Cook Bakes Up a Big Lottery Win

Virginia man claims $50,000 prize on 50x the Cash game

An Arlington, Virginia, man who works in a Maryland restaurant was on his lunch break when Lady Luck came his way. Her visit sent the restaurant cook home to hide the lucky 50x the Cash scratch-off that contained a $50,000 prize!

The instant ticket fan enjoys playing scratch-offs to pass the time during his break. Last weekend, the 52-year-old followed his routine and purchased a variety of scratch-offs, including one 50x the Cash instant ticket, from News Express located at 4853 Cordell Avenue in Bethesda. His work break came and that was the end of the cook’s routine day.

The loyal player found no winning number matches on the $10 instant ticket until he reached the very last row. The final number in the last row hid the game’s prize. “I was so happy,” said the winner, “but it was scary at the same time.”

The single father of one daughter made sure to scan the ticket to confirm the win. After accomplishing that mission, he and his brother took the rest of the day off and headed home to hide the lucky scratch-off in a secure place – under his bed.

“My brother is the only person that knows,” said the Virginia man. “Nobody knows about this.”

The winner waited nervously over the weekend until he could claim his prize at Lottery headquarters on Monday. He didn’t even leave the house because he was so worried about the ticket he’d stashed away!

The happy player hasn’t made definite plans for the winnings, but plans to help family members financially and put the prize into savings.

There are still lots of prizes remaining in this popular game, which went on sale statewide in January. Players can look for two $100,000 top prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $50,000. A member of the Lottery’s multiplier family of scratch-off games, the 50x the Cash game is joined by the 5x the Cash, 10x the Cash, 20x the Cash and 100x the Cash instant tickets.
