Restaurant Stop Pays $50,000 for Prince George’s Resident

Winner takes home taxes-paid top prize on Bonus Match 5

A Prince George’s County resident who was in the mood for some of his favorite food got a whole lot more than that when he bought a Bonus Match 5 ticket on Nov. 3 at the Black Ribeye Restaurant in District Heights.

He went for the restaurant’s famous mix of ribs, fish, chicken and pork chops and came home with a top-prize-winning ticket worth $50,000.

“I just had a taste for some of their food that day and decided to play some numbers while I was there,” he said.

He bought a $2 Bonus Match 5 ticket, choosing two lines of numbers himself and allowing the Lottery terminal to Quick Pick the third line. And it was that Quick Pick line that did the trick, as he discovered on the morning of Nov. 4 when he checked the previous night’s winning numbers.

“I always move my finger across as I check the tickets, so I check one number at a time,” he said. “I saw 4, 6, 12, 27, and I got to the end of the line and I said ‘It sure would be nice if that last number was 35.’ And I moved my finger and there it was. I just thanked God. I didn’t scream or anything. I just said ‘Thank you.’”

By matching all five numbers, the lucky winner took home $50,000. And there was even more good news because he purchased his ticket during the Lottery’s taxes-paid promotion, which pays the taxes on all Bonus Match 5 top prizes for tickets purchased through Nov. 16. He said he plans to use the money to pay off bills, build up his savings, and provide some financial help to his family.

The Black Ribye Restaurant at 6100 Marlboro Pike in District Heights is a winner as well. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize-winning Bonus Match 5 ticket.
