Takes home $50,000 top prize with taxes paid on All Cash No Taxes game
A Glen Burnie retiree who spent his career working with numbers figured he’d start his morning off right with Maryland Lottery fun and games. The retired accountant headed out to purchase two All Cash No Taxes scratch-offs, which is his favorite ticket because it keeps delivering small wins.
The Anne Arundel County resident soon brought home a win that topped those small sums. He moved his Lottery accounting firmly into the black with a $50,000 top-prize win that comes with all taxes paid. Persistence paid off for this player!
“At first, I went to the 7-Eleven convenience store and bought two of the All Cash tickets,” he said. “When I got home and scratched both of them, they weren’t winners. I normally don’t buy any more if I don’t win but for some reason, I had a strange feeling I should go back and get another ticket.”
The convenience store, however, had run out of the popular game when he returned. Determined to get another All Cash No Taxes scratch-off, the 71-year-old set off for another Lottery retailer. At Sunset Restaurant in Glen Burnie, he found his favorite instant ticket in stock.
The lucky man returned home and scratched off his instant ticket while he relaxed and watched the news. “The first thing I saw as I was scratching the ticket was a $5,000 prize on the first line,” he said. As he continued to scratch, his surprise grew and he realized he had a $50,000 winning scratch-off in his hand.
The happy winner and his wife of 51 years claimed the prize together at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. This is his biggest Lottery win – so far.
“My husband is one of the luckiest persons I know,” said his wife. “Now, if he could only hit the Mega Millions!” He’s got a chance because no one hit that jackpot in the Tuesday, Oct. 3 drawing. The jackpot rolled to $30 million for the Friday, Oct. 6 drawing and has a cash option of $18.5 million.
The winner and his wife plan to share the scratch-off prize with their two adult daughters so they can pay off some debt. They also plan to take their family out to dinner to celebrate!
Also enjoying the big win is the lucky Anne Arundel County retailer. Sunset Restaurant located at 625 Greenway Avenue in Glen Burnie earned a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize scratch-off in the $5 game.
There are plenty of winning tickets remaining, too. Players can hunt for three more $50,000 top prizes and thousands of others ranging from $5 to $5,000.
