Royal Gems game delivers three winning instant tickets
A retired U.S. Army sergeant who rarely plays Maryland Lottery scratch-offs is a new fan after capturing not one, not two, but three winning Royal Gems scratch-offs in a row!
The Salisbury resident was shopping at the Country Farm store in his hometown when he decided to buy three Royal Gems scratch-offs. “I had a few dollars and I wanted to splurge,” he said. The 70-something veteran won $20 back on the first instant ticket and $50 on his second scratch-off.
“I waited until I got home to scratch the last one,” he said. The father of eight was home alone when he revealed his $10,000 prize-winning ticket.
“I’ve never seen a ticket like that!”
He phoned his sister with the good news but kept his win a secret from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. “She didn’t believe me,” he said, but his sister accompanied him to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his prize and is certainly a believer now.
The two of them confirmed the win with another retailer before making the journey across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to Baltimore. The happy player plans to pay bills with his prize and put whatever is left in the bank – except for a little Lottery fun money. He’s got his heart set on playing the Royal Gems game. There are still two $1 million top prizes and three $50,000 prizes in this game, along with thousands of other prizes ranging from $20 to $10,000.
“I think I’ll go back and play another one,” he said.
