Retired Auditor Confirms Her Lucky Number with Top-Prize Lottery Win

Claims $7,777 prize playing White Ice 7s scratch-off

149-White-Ice-7s_ITVMBarbara Sewell of Baltimore knows numbers. The retired auditor for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield built her career around numbers as well as her pastime – playing Maryland Lottery games.

Even in retirement, her lucky number 7 is still delivering Lottery wins to this 72-year-old mother of three. “I cannot believe it,” Barbara said of her new $7,777 top-prize win on a White Ice 7s scratch-off.

The loyal player has always enjoyed playing scratch-offs. “I’d get a few tickets on my way home from the office, back when I was working,” Barbara said. “After I had made dinner for the family and finished what had to be done around the house, I’d scratch them as I relaxed.”

The busy grandmother still plays scratch-offs, although less frequently since her retirement. While out recently with one of her children, Barbara spotted Lottery retailer McLellan Liquors at 6320 Sherwood Road in Baltimore and stopped in to check out the store’s scratch-off selection.

“I’ve had good luck with any game with 7 in the name, so I picked out the White Ice 7s game,” she said. Barbara, her son and her daughter took one look at her winning ticket and, one after the other, repeated the exact same words: “I cannot believe it!”

Barbara plans to spend her winnings on several home improvement projects. The $2 game still has five top-prize winning tickets in stores awaiting discovery.
