Retired Bartender Serves Herself a Bonus Match 5 Win

Wicomico County grandmother claims $150,000 prize

Maryland Lottery officials learned two things about a Wicomico County winner when she visited headquarters to claim her $150,000 Bonus Match 5 prize. She is very close to her large extended family and loves to play Bonus Match 5.

The retired bartender’s favorite game returned a good amount of that affection to her over the weekend in the form of a tripled top-prize win.

The lucky woman plays the exact same Bonus Match 5 numbers several times each week in Pittsville, an Eastern Shore town found between Salisbury and Ocean City. Her favorite Lottery retailer there is JT’s Market, where she plays numbers that she remembers seeing often when her customers played Keno. In fact, the 76-year-old is so dedicated to the numbers she plays them multiple times on each ticket she buys. That practice tripled her Bonus Match 5 regular top prize of $50,000 won in the Aug. 18 drawing.

“My son checks the tickets for me,” the lucky player said. “He came running into the living room, yelling his head off because he’d seen Friday’s winning numbers and recognized them.” A trip to JT’s Market at 7125 Sixty Foot Road to get an official printout of the Bonus Match 5 winning numbers for Aug. 18 was all it took to confirm her big win.

“I couldn’t believe it at first,” she said. “I thought my son had gone crazy. But it’s real.”

The grateful grandmother knew immediately what to do with some of her $150,000 prize. “I have lots of family that can use some help,” she said. “They’re all so good to each other, taking care of those who are sick or getting older. They all deserve a bit of this.”

Also in the money is her lucky Lottery retailer. For selling a top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket of $150,000, JT’s Market earns a tripled bonus of $1,500 from the Lottery.
