Retired Chef Cooks Up Ingredients for Bonus Match 5 Top Prize

Wins $50,000 on her favorite Lottery game

A 76-year-old retired chef could not be happier after whisking up a $50,000 Bonus Match 5 win in the Nov. 8 drawing on her weekly ticket. The Bowie resident admits that Bonus Match 5 is her favorite Maryland Lottery game and she plays it often, using random numbers.

“I just pick the numbers out of my head,” she said, smiling. “They have no special meaning.”

The grandmother of five bought her lucky three-draw ticket at Highbridge Village Market in Bowie on the day of her winning drawing. After making her purchase, she went home. Later, the Prince George’s County resident was watching the news when she saw familiar numbers scroll across the screen.

“I thought to myself, ‘I think I got that,’ ” said the winner. “I had to go get my son to tell him I won.”

After sharing her news with her son and getting him to confirm the $50,000 prize, the happy retiree went to tell her husband. “I told him I won big this time,” said the fortunate player. “He smiled back at me and said, ‘So, what are we going to do with the money?’ ”

The happy player shared with Lottery officials that she has won smaller amounts in the past, including a $10,000 Pick 4 prize. This is the first time she’s won such a large prize!

The winner plans to use some of the prize to help her family financially and will go holiday shopping, supplement a pre-planned trip to New York for Thanksgiving and save the rest. The hot numbers that baked into a sweet treat for the winner were 3, 4, 7, 8, 10 and Bonus Ball 36.

Also sharing in her win is the Lottery retailer. The Prince George’s County store located at 6021 High Bridge Road earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning ticket in the daily game.
