Passing time while waiting for a neighbor to finish her grocery shopping, Rosemary Robinson of Baltimore noticed a Maryland Lottery self-service vending machine in the Giant grocery store.

As she drew closer, she saw an instant ticket with lots of 7’s in its top prize. The Black Pearl 7s instant ticket is a $2 player favorite. “When I saw the 7’s, I knew I had to get one or two,” she said. “The number seven has always been lucky for me.”

The 62-year-old wife and mother was at Giant #303 located at 601 East 33rd Street in Baltimore because her friend needed a ride. That act of kindness put her in the right place at the right time to win big.

“Every number in the WIN column was a seven, every one of them,” she said. “I thought it was some kind of winner, but wasn’t sure how big.” After consulting her husband, the couple quickly determined that Rosemary won the game’s $7,777 top prize.

“I was suddenly very happy and very nervous, for some reason,” said the retired nurse.

“She actually fell to the floor when we figured out how much the ticket was worth,” her husband said. “I had to help her get back up.”

The couple plans to put the prize in the bank for now. “We have a family member or two going through tough times,” Rosemary said. “It will be nice to be able to help them if the need arises.”

The Black Pearl 7s scratch-off game debuted in December and, at last count, has four more $7,777 top prizes available.
