Baltimore County frequent player finds her biggest Lottery win
Just about every morning you’ll find Linda Powell testing her luck at a Maryland Lottery retailer. The game the Dundalk resident chooses on any particular day may change but not the fun she experiences — especially when she’s lucky.
The biggest scratch-off win of her life brought the retired baker to Lottery headquarters just hours after she discovered her prize. The Baltimore County resident’s heart-stopping shock had eased by the time she arrived to claim her $50,000 prize but the joy and relief of the $1,000,000 Blowout scratch-off win was written all over her face.
“I told the clerk that I thought I was going to have a heart attack, and I was only half joking,” Linda told Lottery officials. Her first hint that something special was happening came when she saw matches everywhere she scratched on her $20 $1,000,000 Blowout instant ticket.
“I’ve had lots of matches before on tickets, but never this many. I knew something was up,” she said. The gas station clerk confirmed the $50,000 win and a mini-celebration started at the Merritt Boulevard Crown in Dundalk. “All of the customers and staff congratulated me. It was fun!”
Linda, 67, plans to pay off two bills with her prize and then take a trip with her mother. “Not having those bills to worry about every month will be a huge relief.”
