A 69-year-old Timonium man can celebrate his birthday in style this year, thanks to a special delivery from the Maryland Lottery. His lucky Bonus Match 5 ticket delivered a welcome $50,000 surprise from the game’s July 8 drawing.
The excited winner, who turns 70 this month, bagged his big win after stopping by Wegmans #14 in Hunt Valley to buy a cup of coffee and a doughnut.
“When I got there, I was a little irritated because the supermarket was closing earlier than usual,” the retiree said. “I decided to hurry up and put my Bonus Match 5 numbers in before they closed.”
He let the terminal quick pick the numbers on his lucky $2 ticket and went on his way. After a few days, the Baltimore County resident decided to check his ticket’s numbers online at mdlottery.com to see if he won. Seeing his Lottery luck gave him the shock of his life.
“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” the lucky man said. “I must have looked at the ticket a dozen times just to see if I had really won. This is such a great feeling. It certainly brings a little bit more security to my life just know I have this extra cash.”
The loyal player reports winning several hundred dollars over the years playing Bonus Match 5. Until now, he had only dreamed of winning the top prize in the daily game.
“I think I’ll take my wife out to dinner tonight to celebrate tonight,” he said. “I may plan a nice little trip later to Rehoboth, as well. This is such an awesome feeling.”
Our winner is not the only one with reason to celebrate. Wegmans #14 located at 122 Shawan Road in Hunt Valley earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize ticket in the game. Congratulations!
