Pair finds luck with Superfecta Bonus wager
Leaving their home in Washington, D.C. to play Racetrax in Maryland is routine for a Lottery-playing husband-and-wife team. What is not routine, however, is winning $26,049! The astonished pair claimed the biggest prize of their lives very quietly at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The retirees are loyal Racetrax fans and have several favorite Lottery retailers. They found themselves at Eastern Avenue BP in Mount Rainier when Lottery luck crossed their path. The two placed a Superfecta bet that the 9, 7, 1 and 5 horses would finish in that order and added the Bonus multiplier to the 10-draw ticket. The husband discovered the lucky win occurred in the fifth race while watching the game later on his smartphone.
The bonus for that race carried a 3x multiplier, which boosted the size of the prize significantly. “I went to her and told her it was a birthday present for her,” said the husband, whose wife’s birthday takes place this month.
The parents of five adult children and grandparents of two plan to pay bills with the prize and go on a trip. While the husband also plays Pick 3 and Pick 4, Racetrax is the game they play together.
Their lucky Lottery retailer, Eastern Avenue BP, is located at 4501 Eastern Avenue in Prince George’s County. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, the retailer earns a $260.49 bonus from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
