“Rich is Richer” from Glen Burnie plans to add her $50,000 Bonus Match 5 prize to her retirement fund.
Glen Burnie woman claims $50,000 top prize
An Anne Arundel Community College employee who is set to retire in two weeks has $50,000 extra to put into the retirement pot, thanks to the Bonus Match 5 game.
The Glen Burnie resident, who dubbed herself “Rich is Richer” for publicity purposes, is an avid Lottery player. She enjoys all of the games the Maryland Lottery offers and plays them often. She was out running errands early last Friday morning when she stopped at a Royal Farms store in Millersville to play some of her favorite games.
The 57-year-old purchased $10 worth of games including a $2 quick-pick Bonus Match 5 ticket for the Aug. 6 drawing. She put the tickets in her wallet and went on about her day, not discovering she was a winner until late that night.
“I was laying in bed when I checked the ticket,” said “Rich is Richer.” “I checked the Bonus Ball first, but I didn’t match it. I then looked at the other five numbers and couldn’t believe I matched all of them.”
In shock, the lucky player checked her ticket three times before scanning it using the Maryland Lottery app on her phone. Sure enough, she won the $50,000 top prize on the game. She shared the news only with her mother.
“I said ‘Mom, are you sitting down?’ ” recalled “Rich is Richer,” smiling. “She thought something was wrong.”
Actually, everything was very much all right and her mother was pleased to hear the good news. The next morning, the big winner was still in disbelief about her timely brush with Lottery luck. She checked her ticket one more time to confirm the top-prize win was a reality. She wasted no time in claiming her prize this week!
“Rich is Richer” said she’s in the process of selling her home in Maryland to relocate in North Carolina. The $50,000 Bonus Match 5 win and the money from the sale of her home will contribute to a nice nest egg for her retirement.
Also enjoying its lucky sale of the winning ticket is Royal Farms #098 located at 8200 Veterans Highway in Millersville. The Anne Arundel County business receives $500, equal to 1 percent of the prize, for selling a top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket.
