Lottery player known as ‘Shore-Betcha’ nabs game’s top prize
An Ocean City retiree turned up the heat in her Lottery play, using a $50 prize on an instant ticket to purchase a $100,000 winning Red Hot Riche$ scratch-off.
The University System of Maryland retiree and part-time Fager’s Island employee said that winning one of the final two $100,000 prizes in the game seemed like a dream at first. The reality of the win began to sink in after the 62-year-old claimed the prize.
The Worcester County resident, who is calling herself “Shore-Betcha,” said Lottery luck first arrived when she won $50 on one of the Lottery’s Deluxe Crossword games. She reinvested her prize into a $10 Red Hot Riche$ scratch-off bought at 7-Eleven #23366 in Ocean City.
Shortly afterward, she revealed a cash emblem and a $100,000 prize. Not believing what she saw, “Shore-Betcha” confirmed her big win using the store’s instant ticket scanner and began celebrating in the store aisles.
“I went home and thanked the good Lord for what just happened,” said “Shore-Betcha.” The lucky winner told Lottery officials that she has shared news of her good fortune with family members, a few friends and the store clerks. The win won’t change much for her, she said.
“I’m still going to work my shifts at Fager’s. I’ll still be there for Bike week and all the OC crowds. And, when I’m off, I’ll probably be crabbing or fishing,” she explained. “Shore-Betcha” plans to save some of her winnings and put a portion into helping the community by starting an area food bank.
The lucky Worcester County convenience store where the win occurred can celebrate, too. For its role in making the $100,000 top-prize scratch-off win a reality, 7-Eleven #23366 located at 5809 Coastal Highway in Ocean City will earn a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
The Red Hot Riche$ game now has just a single $100,000 top prize remaining. Game sales were sizzling hot since Red Hot Riche$ launched in March with seven $100,000 top prizes and more than 700,000 other prizes. Also remaining now are two $20,000 prizes, nine $10,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $1,000.
